Possible Alternative Exams

Oral presence examination

In winter semester 2020/21, you will still have the opportunity to take an examination in person, subject to strict hygiene regulations. One candidate and the examination committee may be present. In order to protect against infections, please take care when planning oral examinations to avoid meeting times for the examinees.

Classical homework and seminar papers

The formats of the classical homework or seminar paper or the presentation listed in the study and examination regulations (SPOs) can still be used as an alternative form of examination.

Electronic oral examination

An oral module examination can be taken digitally via a video and audio connection (via Zoom, BigBlueButton, DFNConf) individually, but also in groups by an examiner and an expert assessor or by several examiners.

If you want to conduct oral examinations, you must ensure that the students have the opportunity to try out the relevant technical options and systems. It is only possible to conduct the electronic oral examination if all participants can communicate with each other via video. The identity of the person to be examined must be clearly ascertainable. Recording of the electronic oral examination is not permitted.

Electronic written (unattended) examination

In addition to a classic seminar paper or term paper, the so-called "written paper" (Take Home or Open Book Exam), for example, is a form of unsupervised proof of performance. This is an examination that can be taken in electronic form without a specified examination room and without supervision.

A written paper (e.g. the processing of a case study, spreadsheet, essay, abstract or assignment) comprises an independent written examination of a subject-specific or interdisciplinary problem, possibly including and evaluating relevant literature. Unlike the written attended examination, the written assignment is an unsupervised performance record that is completed in a specified limited time. The examined students have to make a declaration of independence in lieu of an oath.

Lecturers can find detailed information on the possible design in the following Moodle course "Digitale Prüfungen".

Electronic written attended examination

Electronic examinations (with video supervision) are possible according to the Ministry's regulation for distance examinations, which will be probably valid from February 2021 - further information will follow. (Status January 20th, 2021)
